2016-06-19 11:12:38 | The Repression of Truth in Erotica | The truth is that our society is not as free as the politicians say we are. Liberalism brings oppression in its own way. And I say that as someone who regards himself as liberal. The censorship of child sexual activity is a tricky one for me. In some ways, I agree with what you are saying. I was interested in girls from a very young age. I even had kissing and petting fantasies as a pre-teen. I enjoyed them even without the sexual impulse, which shows how strong it is. However, I feel that the risk of pedophilia is a real issue. And I feel that some censorship is appropriate. i once wrote a story about a 'consensual rape'. But I felt uncomfortable about it. I would not like to think that anything I write would encourage someone to believe that rape or abuse would ever be enjoyable to the victim. The risk is real. When I was younger and more naive, I believed that sex stories reflected reality. |
2016-06-19 11:26:44 | To publish for money or not? | Good essay on an interesting topic. I personally would never publish. I have three reasons. Firstly, if I create erotica, it is about the things I like. The truth is, these things are rather one dimensional and repetitive. Also, they are things that are not easy to describe in words. In the end, the stories I really want to write may interest me. But others will find them boring. Secondly, I find published erotica quite formulaic. It often contains sexual activity that doesn't interest may and excludes things that do interest me. In general, I find most published erotica dull. I certainly don't want to write like that. Thirdly, I can't be bothered with the effort to write really well. The good thing about writing as an amateur, is that you don't ave to have perfect grammar. But if you write professionally, these things become very important. |
2016-06-19 11:42:34 | Thoughts on Storytelling: Introduction | Nice essay. This is the sort of thing the essay section should be used for. I disagree with you in one thing. I would hesitate to right off every person who gives advice on story telling. I am sure some give very good advice. Although I am equally sure there are some who don't know what they are talking about. I do agree with one thing though. There are many factors that can determine how good a story is. Some the author cannot control. But if the author has passion, inspiration and good execution, then at least he/she has done all they can. It should be noted that success and quality are not the same thing. The truly successful stories allow the audience to emotionally immerse themselves in the world. But that does not work with everyone. I truly believe that if one person loves a story, then it is good. But is that enough for the author? |
2018-10-02 20:36:13 | What Kind of Erotic Writer are You? | Nice article. Good to see some people know the purpose of the essay section. My motivations for writing are varies and have changed over time. When I used to write sex stories, my main motivation was to be able to visualise my own fantasy. I used to believe that if I could write a stories about things I like, it would help me visualise and feel my fantasies better. However, I found this did not work, partly because I could not express my thoughts in a way I would be interested in reading. In The other reason is appreciation. I want people to enjoy what I read enough to express positive feedback. In terms of sex writing, I used believe that making people aroused was the goal. But I am not so bothered now. I would now rather write a story that is clever or funny than just simply erotic. Currently, I have two things in mind. A light hearted erotic story about a lust demon or an essay on sexual daydreaming. Either way, erotic content will be limited. |
2018-10-02 21:06:55 | The Online Erotica Writer's Guide to Etiquette | Very good essay on writing on this site. You clearly know what you are talking about. I have written on this site in the past and found it challenging. |
